Routes to qualify / various qualifications
The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) is a new route to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales, which will be introduced in September 2021.
The SQE will replace the existing system of academic and vocational qualifications, and will consist of two stages: SQE1 and SQE2.
Another route to qualify as a solicitor is through the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), which offers an alternative qualification pathway to solicitors.
CILEx qualifications are designed to be flexible, and can be studied part-time or full-time while working in a legal environment.
Graduates with a qualifying law degree or GDL can also apply for a training contract or paralegal position and work their way up to qualification as a solicitor through the traditional route.

Upon completion of the workshop, attendees will have a thorough understanding of the different pathways to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales, including the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) qualification pathway, and the traditional route.
