To become a solicitor in England, candidates are required to complete a minimum of two years of work experience, usually known as a Training Contract.

This experience should be obtained in a legal practice or a legal role that provides the necessary training and experience to meet the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) competency standards.

The seminar aims to guide candidates on how to approach securing a qualifying work experience and what steps to take to fulfil the SRA's requirements.

The workshop will provide insights on when to start applying, how to navigate the process, and ensure candidates have the necessary skills and experience to practice as a qualified solicitor.

1. Introduction to Training Contract: Overview of the training contract / qualifying period of employment process, exploring other options and routes to qualify.

2. Early planning: Early planning is essential when it comes to securing a training contract. How and where to start your research and preparation so you have the best chance of success in securing a training contract.

3. Research potential firms and their training contracts: Understand the type of work they do, their culture and the type of trainees they are looking for.

4. Network: Attend events, seminars and conferences to meet potential employers and build relationships.

5. Develop your CV: Highlight your academic achievements, work experience and extra-curricular activities.

6. Prepare for interviews: Research the firm, practice your answers and be prepared to answer questions about yourself.

Upon attending of this seminar the following outcomes are anticipated:

1. Participants gained an understanding of the legal and ethical considerations of a training contract.

2. They were able to identify the key skills and qualities needed to be successful in the role.
